WEB TOOL AND RESOURCES
WEBTOOLS

Web 1.0 (Read only web)

According to Tim Berners-Lee, the first implementation of the web in 1999 representing the web 1.0 could be considered as the “read- only web”
Early web allows users to search for information and read it.

Web 2.0 (read write web)

Web 2.0 was defined by dale Dougherty in 2004 as a read-write web.
With web 2.0, teachers and students have new ways creating of collaborating and contributing of information.

3D PROJECTS

SketchUp- SketchUp is a desktop application from Google that allows teachers or students to create and share stunning 3D models.

ANIMATION AND COMIC STRIP

Blabberize- it is used to animate pictures to make people, animals or objects talk.

AUDIO EDITING TOOLS

Audacity- it is used to record or install sounds to your computer and edit them afterwards

BOOKMARKING AND ONLINE COLLABORATION

Pinterest it is an online pin board used to organize and share things.

BLOGGING

Wordpress- It is considered as a blogging platform and content management system.

EdX- this is an openCourseWaresite that is great tool for students to test their interest in a college major.

DESKTOP PUBLISHING TOOLS

PDF Creator- it is an open source desktop application that creates PDF’s from any Windows program.

GAMES, QUIZZES AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

ABCya- it is an online educational games aimed at primary school levels.

INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO AND VIDEO SHARING

Teachertube-IT is like YouTube but is used educational purposes.

MIND MAPPING

Gliffy- Online diagram software. It is used to create professional-looking flowcharts, diagrams floor plans and technical drawings.

Flickr- it is used for photo management and sharing application

Gimp- it is good alternative to Photoshop.

Web 3.0 (The Semantic Web)

Web 3.0 is considered as a semantic web age according to Tim Berners Lee
Semantic web is a web that can demonstrate things in the approach which computer can be understand.

Web 4.0 (Mobile Web)

Web 4.0 connects all devices in the real world in real time.

Web 5.0 (Open, linked and intelligent web = Emotional Web)

Web is about the (emotional) interaction between human and computers.

CATEGORIES OF WEB RESOURCES


  • Online tutorials- it is designed for independent learning with well-integrated learning sources explanatory segments and evaluation activities.
  • Instructional Resources- Instructional resources provide the components of a learning activity but leave the teacher responsible for implementation and evaluation.
  • Primary sources- these are raw information sources not necessarily developed to meet educational needs.

KEEPING TRACK OF WEB RESOURES

  • Using Bookmarks – a bookmark is a way of saving and keeping track of valuable resources
  • Adding a Bookmark – adding a bookmark is done by clicking on the “bookmark this page” option or by going to bookmarks menu and choosing this page.
  • Organizing Bookmarks – organizing a bookmark list will improve your ability to locate resources.
  • Exporting bookmarks – When you want your bookmark list to have a backup or if you want to pass the list to other, you can make your bookmark list into a webpage using “Save As”

OTHER WEB TOOLS THAT IS HELPFUL FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS

  • Digital story telling- it is a web-based tool that allows users to construct and tell stories through voice, text, images, audio, and video.
  • EBook- is an electronic version of a book.
  • RSS- is a method to deliver frequently updated information in website.
  • Social Bookmarking-social bookmarking allows you to add, store, and organize your bookmarks and share it to people who may be interested in the same topic that you have bookmarked.
  • Podcast- podcast is syndicated audio or video made available in the web for downloading where subscribers can receive automatically.
  • Vodcast- (video-on-demand casting) works the same ways as that of podcast with the addition of a video.
